A valuable resource that is available to everyone free of charge are local Family History Centers (FHC), of FamilySearch, located at many LDS Churches. The Family History Center for Flathead County is located at 1380 Whitefish Stage Rd in Kalispell. In addition to being able to access the 2.4 million reels of microfilmed records held by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, each FHC allows patrons to access the following genealogical subscription databases: Ancestry.com, Fold3.com, Newspaperarchives.com, FindMyPast.com, Alexander Street Press, ArkivDigital.net, Heritage Quest, Historic Map Works, Paper Trail and World Vital Records. Local FHCs normally have records unique to their area. The FHC in Kalispell has indexed cemetery records for Flathead and Lincoln Counties, church records for different denominations and extracted obituaries with an index for the Daily Interlake newspaper. There are five computers available to access genealogical databases. The FHC is staffed by LDS and non-LDS volunteer genealogists who are there to assist those just starting genealogical research and those who have been researching for a long time but have hit a 'brick wall.' Click on the FamilySearch logo to search the FamilySearch database. Below is a PDF with more detailed information about the databases available at your local FHC.
